Dr. Pepper Baked Beans

There is something about Dr. Pepper that gives these beans the extra favor edge we love.  They are perfect will grilled meats,
and don’t last long on a buffet.

Dr. Pepper Baked Beans ~ serves 10

1 lb bacon, cut into 1″ pieces
1 lb kielbasa, cut into 1/2″ pieces
4 cups onions, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed
2 cans butter beans, drained and rinsed
1 1/2 cups Dr. Pepper
3 Tbsp. cider vinegar
3 Tbsp. ketchup, preferable Heinz
2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
2 Tbsp. molasses
2 tsp. chili powder
2 tsp. Franks hot sauce
salt and pepper to taste

1) Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2) In a Dutch oven, cook bacon and kielbasa over medium heat until golden and crispy.  Remove meats onto a plate lined with a paper towel.
3) Add onions to the Dutch oven and cook in bacon fat until translucent.  Add garlic and cook for another minute.  Then add beans, Dr. Pepper, cider vinegar, ketchup, Dijon, molasses, and spices stirring to combine.  Scrape up the brown bits from the bottom of the pot, and add the meats back in.  Bring to a boil and transfer into the oven.
4) Cook for 30-45 minute until thickens.
